Bridal Gown Alteration

UPDATE....The wedding dress is finished! The train has been removed and corset back has been added. This is such a fantastic trend for women to do to their gowns. I recommend you have a lovely "V" shape from the top to the bottom. This can bring the dress in to shape your body nicely. To tie up a corset back it can be a little tricky but there are some great YouTube videos on how to do it properly or cone visit me and I can show you how!

Another week of sewing...

Another week of Alterations and Custom sewing. The nice thing about being a seamstress is the constant variety I get to work on. This week my friend went back to work after 2yrs off. So we went shopping for a new wardrobe for her and have altered it to fit her new self! Now I am on to the a wedding dress for a lovely lady that is getting married in a very warm client! We are adjusting the dress from zipper back to corset and taking the train off.  I will post photos of the finished product!
Changing a Gown from zipper back to corset is a common practice for women now. Its a simple process and not very costly! Contact me for further information if you would like to know if your dress can be done!

Retro Fitting .....

This is the original look of the gown my customer brought me. The lady felt it was to low and revealing and way to long for her. There also was a skin tone mesh privacy panel which stood out way to much. So we hemmed the dress and made a beautiful one sleeve top to cover her. When we cut the hem it left a lovely tulip shape. She loved the outcome of the design.

Travelling Seamstress for Wedding Parties

Over the past years I have been asked by many Brides to come to their homes to do their fittings for their bridal parties. I am currently working on getting things organized to start this. I will travel up to 1 hour and not have a travel fee. After 1 hour there will be  a charge of .45 per km to the bridal party for the extra distance.  This service will only be for Bridal Parties that choose to use my service.  I have always had the want to make sure the Brides have the least stress possible during their beautiful event. Please contact me for further details about how this service works.

Spring is coming...

It has been the craziest winter here in the City of Toronto! Between the cold, snow and now expected rainfall we should be on the road to recovery. I to have now recovered from my fall in January. It was not a fun time but it gave me time to reflect on my business and personal life. I am so happy to say that many things will come together over the next few weeks for the Business. New to arrive will be Wedding Seamstress Traveling services and a few Custom sewing contracts for a couple of up and coming companies in Toronto. We will still offer our Alteration services daily with the same quality service. I look forward to servicing all your sewing needs. Please feel free to call, email or drop by!

Studio changes....

Picture
After 2 years of searching and stressing I have decided to keep my Sewing Business at home. This gives my clients the flexibility in appointments and that personal touch you do not get when you take your clothes to the dry cleaners! One of the beauties of having my studio\workspace at home is that I can change it around to suit my needs. So over the next few weeks I will be adjusting the area to look and feel good  As you can see I am fully equipped with domestic and industrial machines to look after all your sewing needs. I offer custom sewing in clothing and home décor . No job is to small! Sewing is my passion and I work hard at keeping my customers happy. If you have a project you would like done or help with please feel free to contact me. I look forward to hearing from you

Christmas and now the slow down..

Sorry for the late blog about our trip had a computer crash after we returned home! Finally back up and running. Wow it has been an extremely busy season. We have been to the wedding in Guatemala and finished all the items to donate to the orphanage there. It was an amazing country and the people were so courteous. Christmas time there is very family orientated and not commercialized like here. I have lots of photos to share and will upload them soon! It will be nice to get back on track and return to sewing like crazy! Wedding season will start very soon and I will be creating a dress very soon, can't wait to share!

Gifts for the orphanage

Picture
Well here it is! These are the items we took to the orphanage in Guatemala. Unfortunately we did not get to visit them at the orphanage due to timing and distance. Driving around Guatemala is not very easy. There is alot of cars and not many street lights or street names. So getting around you need  driver. We did get to venture out close to our hotel and see some sites. Its a beautiful country and more people should go and enjoy their hospitality.

A look at the past....

Picture
Wow it has been 2 years since I have moved my business to Toronto. I had a lovely shop in  small Community called Baden. It is located just outside of Kitchener, ON. We were the only seamstress in town so I was extremely busy. I miss my customers and the small town love they gave to me. This is a picture of the work space before we had to tear down the wall to make for more space.... We will be in a space again one day but for now we work out of my home.  I post this to let you see my talent and how many customers I had. I do hope to bring this here and show how an alteration store should be run. How people deserve one on one service even if it is just to have your pants hemmed. I believe that every piece is special and everyone deserves great customer service.

Hope to see you soon!

Cheers

The one thing I love the most about having my business here in Toronto is all the custom things I get to do! Its such a lovely variety of things and people who need them . The creativity in the city is awesome.  so if you have some ideas that need to come to life please feel free to contact me.

Sunday... the day of helping others

Today is Sunday and usually I get to spend it doing my own thing, which is usually sewing! That shouldn't surprise anyone who knows me... But today my friend asked me to help paint her house.  She has been under major Reno's for almost a year and its so exciting to see it come together. So we hooked up the iPhone, turned on Christmas tunes and rocked it while painting the ceilings and walls.  This ending to my year has turned into a very positive and rewarding year. My friend has shown me how being positive and getting rid of the negative and stress is very uplifting. Things happen when you have these vibes surrounding you! I am so very blessed!

18 days and counting... Guatemala quest

The sewing quest is in motion. As we sewers all know there is always projects either finished or unfinished tucked away somewhere in your sewing room. Well I have located a bucket full of goodies that I have decided to add to my package for Guatemala. Today I cut up 16 pj bottoms, 4 sundresses and 6 skirts.  That took up all my kids prints! I am so excited to go and see what orphanage my son in law finds for us to take these items to. It will be a beautiful Christmas for all those little people...

Guatemala Pj's...how many in 19 days?

I am so very excited to start my blog out with this story! My middle daughter will be getting married in just under a month in Guatemala City where her future husband is from and it has always been a passion of mine to be able to make something for kids in need in other countries and be able to see it get to them. After hearing about the poverty in Guatemala City from my son in law and daughter, I thought why not take some handmade gifts down to the kids there. I thought what is compact, light, and I can make fast...? Why not pyjama pants! Every year at Christmas I have made my children pyjamas and this would be amazing if I could do the same for the kids there. Like all other sewing addicts I have a stock pile of fabrics and I am so excited to see that the fabric is going to make a lovely little gift for these kids at Christmas! So how many pairs of pants can I make in 19days???? We shall see.

 Cheers Janet
